Healthy Eating

I don't cook much when I'm pregnant - meat, eggs, all of the smells just gross me out. And it's hard to snap out of that habit once a new baby is in the house and I'm too tired to plan and grocery shop, so we have been eating out way too much for months. Maybe even a year.

I made this lovely dinner this week and it's so nice to cook when you make a plan and have all the ingredients. I need to do this more often! And the kids even ate the salmon- they loved it! So here's to more healthy cooking!

The Face Plant and the Top Tooth

I think these two events must be related somehow... Today at school Miles fell off the monkey bars and did a face plant. His face might be black and blue tomorrow but today he was just sad and wanted to come home. So Matt took him to lunch at Robertos, the cure for many woes.

He has two loose top teeth that need to come out! These are the same teeth that had cavities when he was a toddler. Today after school, everyone in the car started chanting "Pull it! Pull it!" So, he did. I'm guessing the face plant helped things along a bit.

Let the snaggle tooth years begin!

Claire's Baptism Dress

I don't need much persuading to take photos of my kids, so even if taking baptism dress photos before the actual baptism is kind of trendy right now, I love them!

Claire will be baptized in October by Matt, surrounded by family and friends. In our church, we are baptized at age 8 or older, the age of accountability where we can know right from wrong. She is an old soul and seems very ready for this. She told me "this is just the next step to return to Heavenly Father."  Done and done.

I got a little teary eyed when I saw her in this dress, looking so beautiful and grown up. She was sent to us first for a reason - she is a great older sister and an example to her siblings.

I'm Not Ready!

Just some recent pictures of our lazy days of fun before Matt starts his new job in October. Matt is still studying for the CPA exam most of the time, but I can tell we are both realizing that he only has so many days left at home so we are trying to hang out more on the days I work at the house.

I am excited for him, but not so secretly dreading it too. We have been blessed to have very flexible schedules for most of the past 8 years, allowing us to work around doctor's appointments, elementary school schedules, soccer practice, sick kids, church callings and more.  As the new guy, there will be very little time off for Matt, if any, and long work days especially during the busy accounting seasons.

So for now there are breakfast dates, park trips and just hanging out!

Bat Girl

Cleaning and organizing with Penelope around is like trying to stop a waterfall from falling... It's not happening. Everything I took out to sort into keep - donate- trash, she wanted to play with.

She came out in her bathing suit and this batman mask and Matt called her Bat Girl. She said hold on...

... and came back with the girly part of her costume. The dress up box in all its glory ;)

Skate Party

Miles was determined to learn to skate at Genevieve's party. He practiced on the side and then went into the fray. He fell. A lot. But he got the hang of it.

Claire was the opposite - she fell once and said she wasn't going to fall again. So she stayed on the side the whole time.

Happy Birthday Claire!

It's great to be 8! Krispy Kreme breakfast and dinner at BJs- Claire's pick! Then a trip to Deseret Book to get her own set of scriptures with her name on them and an owl print case.

Opening presents at Memas- this girl gives the best reactions to her gifts!

Hold On to Your Heart - Henry at 5 1/2 Months

We went out to Floyd Lamb Park and took some photos of Henry at 5 1/2 months old. I'm trying to keep up the traditions of regular baby photos, but it's tough!! I'm determined though... they turned out so cute! I love the overalls and the fact that Henry is sitting in a chair his Mema used as a little girl, and laying on a blanket his Aunt Becky made him. This kid is loved!

Kid Quotes

I showed Penelope a gray hair I pulled out of my head. Look at this! I said. She said, "That's not a hair. It's a kitty whiska!"

On our last trip to my parents house, the kids went to primary at my old ward on Sunday. When my Dad asked the Primary President how the kids did, she said, "Claire and Miles were exceptional!" My Dad said oh I'm glad they were good. She said, "No- they were exceptional!"

Miles went up to my brother Kenny-no hello, no hi, hasn't sent him for months and says, "Just so you know, my tooth is loose." And then walks away.

After Open House I asked Miles the name of a lady at his school. He said, "I forget what her name is but it starts with Mrs."

Side note: in the photo above, Miles is scarfing down an early spaghetti dinner at BJs after eating two lunches at school! He brought cold lunch but forgot and ate hot lunch. Then he ate his cold lunch on the way home from school. And less than two hours later he is inhaling spaghetti! He is going to double my grocery bill someday soon!

Starting Tennis!

We started the kids in tennis lessons and they are doing great! I am looking forward to years down the road when we can all play together. Now to get Matt a tennis racket...

We are doing church soccer (our stake does primary sports - pretty cool!) and tennis this Fall. I am trying to do things that Claire and Miles can do together - one drop off and pick up - score!

I think Claire and Miles will really like tennis - I had them do a private lesson with my instructor before they started regular lessons on our side of town. Both coaches said the kids are coordinated and athletic... maybe they know that's what I wanted to hear, but I'll take it!
