Kid Quotes

Henry says "Yes!" to everything, and I'm not sure why I love that, other than the fact most kids would say, Ok, or Sure, or something less formal. I say, do you want some cucumbers (one of his favs, next to tomatoes) and he will say, "Yes, mom. I want some cucumbers. Yes." I give them to him, and he says, "Thank you, Mom!" with this little up beat tone and an emphasis on Mom. It's adorable. Please keep being so polite Henry.

Penelope is ever so dramatic and she also sheds the largest tears I've ever seen. When she cries, I say it's like the scene in Alice in Wonderland where her tears fill up the room with water. Huge drops appear on her shirt and it looks like it's raining outside. She had her special unicorn pillow pet in the car on our road trip to CA and somehow Miles got something on it and she was very upset. She started crying her huge tears and said, "My beautiful pillow! You've ruined it!" All of her things are beautiful.

Penelope got a math problem right and I said, "Good job P! Penelope said, "Don’t thank me, thank my fingers!"

I painted Penelope's nails and she was super excited with one hand pink and one hand purple. But then later in the day she came to me, held up her nails and very seriously said, "Bad concept!" I said, what, why? She said, "I might not get to have painted nails at school!" Bad concept? Who is this kid?

Penelope was feeling sick and said if she stood up she might throw up. Very seriously she said, “I don’t like where this is heading!” She later threw up so... she was right.

We were listening to the song Flesh and Bone by The Killers and the chorus says, "So what are you made of?" From the back seat, instead of "flesh and bone," Miles sings, "75 percent water!!"

Henry at bedtime, "But my eyelids are not tired!”

We drove past Centennial Hospital and I said, "Henry- that’s the hospital where you were born!" He said, "Did you find me there?"

Henry has been staying with a friend the past few weeks while I go to work. She said when he sees me drive up, he says, "Yay! I get to go back to my family!” She thought it was funny since he didn't say something like  - Yay, Mom! He is quite articulate sometimes. Other times, I have no idea what he is saying.

Tidepools and More San Simeon

Got a local's advise on where to find good tide pools - it was fun for the older kids, not so much for the littles. But they found some cool animals and some shells. Amazing how one part of the beach a few miles up is so different!

San Simeon Camping - Spring Break 2018

This year we met up with May and Grandpa and Erick, Megan and Fam for a Spring Break trip to the San Simeon State Campground.  We bought a used tent trailer a few week before the trip and hurried to get it registered, outfitted with new tires and a hitch on the van so I could take it camping. We didn't get everything on it working - like the propane and battery, so we treated it like a tent on wheels - a nice place to sleep off of the ground. I knew I could use my parents's fifth wheel to cook and get warm if we needed to (and we did!).

We got three campsites all together, up on a hill with a view of the ocean. We could hear the waves at night and it was very peaceful! I was impressed with the other campers too - no one was loud or rowdy at night, everyone stayed quiet and it was very pleasant.

We went to this same campsite when we were kids - but a different part of the campground. I taught my brother Kenny to ride a bike here, which was a pretty cool memory to be reminded of (thanks Mom!).

The kids wanted to go to the beach as soon as possible, but did enjoy climbing the trees and riding their scooters while the adults set up camp. What is it with boys and playing with sticks? Miles was like instantly finding these huge sticks to swing around. I found out later, he actually broke one of the tree branches while climbing up, and fell down several feet. Luckily, no injuries. Though then that would really remind me of my childhood Spring Break trips, which seemed to always start with my dad butterflying some wound or a trip to the ER for one of my brothers on our way out of town.

Penelope in this hat was just too cute - I kept taking her picture in it all day. She had her hair cut just a few days ago - chopped it off again into a cute bob. The hair was cut with a side part, that of course kept changing all day to create a weird long piece of hair on one side... she still looked cute.

The basic shell of this teepee was on the beach when we got there, but they built it up quite a bit and it was a nice wind break on the beach.

Henry fell into the waves and was cold and upset - we hung out in the car after that. Why does he look so huge in this picture?

Playing the "game" at the little (and I mean tiny) aquarium at the San Simeon Pier.
