Kid Quotes

Penelope said, "MILES! Just look at this color! I love it! LOVE it!! It's beautiful!" It was a plum purple she was using to color with at church. No drama in this girl... at all.

Looking at herself in the closet mirrors, Penelope said, "It's awesome! ... Like this pose I am doing right now..." She lunged and had her arms up in the air.

I was doing Penelope's hair in my bathroom and she was looking at herself and talking into a hand mirror. I moved to do her hair on the other side and I was now in view of the small mirror. "Mom, move! You're not in my video!!" Life is a YouTube video for this girl...

The kids were in the back of the van listing who is the boss of who... Claire said she was the boss of everyone when mom isn't around... Miles said well then he was the boss of Penelope and Henry. Penelope said she was the boss of Henry then! Then Miles pauses and says, "Well technically, Henry is the boss of all of us!" So true!

While driving around in the car one day, Penelope said, "Mom I really really want to go to a Star Wars cafe.  I said, "Oh where is that?! That sounds fun." She said, "I don't know. I just want to go to one!" Someone get on that idea - it's a hit!

Penelope interrupted me just one too many times when I was talking to Matt after he got home from work. I gave her an overzealous shushing. She started to cry and ran away to her room. She came out a minute later and said in the saddest voice, "You..broke.. my heart!"

Miles broke the code on Claire's kindle like three times in a row. I said he was a code breaker and should be an FBI agent. "Is that even a real thing?" he said.

Garth Brooks Concert!

Erick and Megan came to town for their anniversary and we got to go along with them to the Garth Brooks concert. He is one of my favorite performers ever- even since way back when. I first saw him in 1996 in Sacramento. I went with Ali Steed- she said she recently found the concert ticket and we paid $19. He hasn't slowed down one bit!! We had a great time and it was nice to finally have a double date with Erick and Megan!

Basketball Season!

Well, we won some and we lost some, and the kids finally started clicking and getting it the last week of the season, of course! I had fun coaching and the kids learned a lot, so I will call that an overall win!

I was suprised at how much I missed playing too - I would jump into a scrimmage every now and then and it was so fun!

I think Claire and Miles liked playing, but Miles was by far the youngest player (since I snuck him on the team before his 7th birthday) and Claire was the only girl... so both felt a bit discriminated against and would complain about kids who never passed to them. I said you have to earn your team's respect, then they pass to you. And sometimes you also have to just take control and get your own rebounds and make your own plays- so your team can see that you can handle yourself out there. Basketball is a hard sport for little kids who are still getting coordinated. Now on to soccer season in just a few short weeks!

Kid Quotes

P was in the bathroom and I hear her yell in this low voice, "You're about to get a piece of me!!!" She came out and I said what was that about? She said there was a fly in the bathroom that she was trying to squash.

After picking up the kids from Betty's house I asked Miles how it went at Mema's. He said Penelope hit him so he threw a pillow at her and accidentally knocked something over.  I said, "Well what did you learn from that?" He said, "To have better aim?"

I told the kids that we needed to hurry and get to Target to buy some pacifiers. Penelope said, "Yeah! You heard da lady!" I swear she is from New Jersey or something...

Penelope came to me and said, "I cleaned my room!!... Don't look!!" Yeah, that is NOT suspicious at all Penelope...

Miles and Claire were in the back of the van talking about their favorite music. I turned down the music to eavesdrop.  Miles said, "Let's name our favorite singers and groups and then our favorite songs. I like the Killers. The song Flesh and Bone. Do you like Counting Stars?"  I am fairly certain I had no such opinions when I was his age. Music is so much more accessible and easy to get now - and I don't think our parents ever let us choose the music in the car... it was their music or nothing! :)

Last day of school (left) and first day of 1st and 3rd grade (right)
Penelope was in bed and put her arms up over her head, linking her hand together and squishing her face in between her arms. She said, "Mom do I look like an avocado?" And if you an picture the shape of a halved avocado, she totally did.
