Baby Shower

My mom, sister and niece were in town last week, so we planned a family shower with a few close friends. I had such a good time with everyone - it's like your wedding or another family get together where you want to talk to everyone, but only have time to have short conversations with everyone, so kind of frustrating but in a good way. Does that even make sense? :)

My friends put together a beautiful shower - we had my favorite meal of the day - dessert! I have more pictures on my camera, but here is one my mom sent of me with Karry.

We got a few little girl outfits, and one little boy outfit - sorry Emily Jensen - that is definitely a boy outfit :). And no gift receipts! These are confident people giving out their predictions, I guess. I think I almost started crying when I saw the little pair of white Keds that Shelly gave me - so tiny! I love shoes - it is going to be hard to not buy a ton of little baby footwear!

It is starting to feel more real - with a room full of baby gear and diapers.... so crazy!

Baby Hiller - comin' early?

So, at my ultrasound last week, the doctor said that the baby is about 10 days ahead of schedule in terms of size and development... based on measurements (of the head, I think ) they estimate that the baby is already 4 pounds... yikes! I have more than 8 weeks to go, and that's a lot of growing time left. So, if this keeps up, he said they would consider inducing me 10 days early... or September 10th.

I think that might not be such a bad idea... that would satisfy the planner in me since I would know the date I'd go to the hospital, and it would be easier to make arrangements with work. We'll see. I have a bit of time still ahead of me, and maybe our gigantic baby will slow down a bit :)

We are headed out to the Hiller Family Reunion on Monday, but before that we have a wedding party for my friend Stephanie out in LA. I have known her since first grade, and am so excited to go see her! We will have quite a bit of traveling ahead of us though - as soon as we get back from LA we leave for South Dakota. But, I'm excited to do these trips while it's just me and Matt. Pretty soon it will be much more difficult to just pack up and leave.

So, today from my downtown Las Vegas office building, I watched from the 10th floor as the line outside the courthouse grew longer and longer... it was 115+ degrees outside today, but every crazy couple who wants to get married in Vegas on 07/07/07 was in that line waiting to get a marriage license. People are nuts! I wish I had my camera with me to capture the line - it snaked all the way down the sidewalk - about a city block - and back again. A few entrepreneurial ice cream trucks stopped to sell treats and gatorade to those in line.

Vegas is going to be crazy this weekend - people are going to the casinos in droves since it's supposed to be the luckiest day of the century - all 7s!

I am going to stay home next to my portable fans and try my luck at painting stripes on the baby's room... not as glamorous, but way more cool!

My friend Jen sent me this and I thought it was so funny! And made me excited to see the personalities that our kids will develop... with Matt as their dad, I'm sure we are in for a treat.

1. A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal, its throat was very small.

The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible. The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah".

The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?" The little girl replied, "Then you ask him."


2. A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.

The girl replied, "I'm drawing God." The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like." Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute."

3. A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor" thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" One little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, "Thou shalt not kill."

The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture."Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, 'There's Jennifer; she's a lawyer,' or 'That's Michael; he's a doctor."A small voice at the back of the room rang out, "And there's the teacher; she's dead."

5. A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, "Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face."Yes," the class said." Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position, the blood doesn't run into my feet?"

A little fellow shouted, "Cause your feet ain't empty."

6. The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray:"Take only ONE. God is watching."

Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples."

Countdown: Less than 90 days

September 20th does not seem that far away... it is already appearing on my three month church calendars, work schedules, holiday planning, and more. Everyone says time flies once you have kids - but it is already happening! I'm not panicking...

We are starting to get our baby room decorated. Part of me is like - hey, this kid will not come out of the womb saying, "I can't believe you chose GREEN for my room" but the other part wants it to be cute and all ready for Baby Hiller.

So, last weekend my sisters-in-law and Betty came over to help get our house organized (in order to create more room for the plethora of baby gear that we still need to get) and to start working on the nursery.

We are doing kelly green and navy blue in the fabrics, and the walls are white on white stripes. I know, what's the point of that, right? But the stripes are different color whites, and different finishes. An eggshell painted with a high-gloss stripe, so it will be subtle but hopefully still noticeable. And that way we can decorate and change the room a lot without worrying about the walls. That's the plan anyway.

Matt and I are learning we have different taste in decor - we really haven't done a thing to the house since we got married. I think it will be fun when we get a new house someday and we can decorate it together. But for now, we will work on this baby room and try to make room in our house for all the baby accessories and gear that one little person needs.

P.S. I'm registered at Babys R Us...

Cute Pics

Just some pictures of me and Matt - they are a few months old, but I still wanted to post them. I can't believe I thought I was already getting big in these pictures - I feel HUGE now.

My feet and ankles have started to swell every day, and this 100+ degree heat doesn't help... the doc said there's not much I can do. He said to put my feet up more. Ok, I'll just quit my job and go home and put my feet up and watch tv. Sounds good!

Evie is mobile!

Evie, our niece (Jonelle & Charlie's little girl) crawled for the first time yesterday. She is nine months old now and such a happy baby. I hope our's is as mild-mannered as she seems to be.
