Got Milk? Not at our house...

So, Claire has refused to drink milk of any kind - formula, nursing, whole milk, chocolate milk (don't tell Matt), etc. I worry about her not getting the calcium and other nutrients she needs so she eats a baby yogurt and a cheese stick once a day, at least. She won't drink much of anything - I have to trick her into drinking water or juice, and then I heard the other day that too much water is bad for babies too... so I try to give her fruit like mandarin oranges that have a lot of liquid. Any ideas for getting her to drink milk? I have tried every sippy cup plus a regular cup since bottles are out too. I should be glad that she basically weaned herself but now what?

My uncle is a pediatrician and he detests milk, and says that most moms overdo it with giving their kids milk. We have a lot of family allergies with it. Katie didn't like milk at first and I thought her bones were going to disintegrate without it. She got her calcium through cheese and yogurt and eventually started drinking milk. I have never heard that too much water is not good for a baby. I guess if they were drowning that would be a bad water situation, but my kids drink lots of water. I have no suggestions on getting her to just drink though. Doesn't she get thirsty?

I remember Nathan being the same way. I tried every sippy cup in the book, but eventually he got over it. I'm sure she's getting enough, just offer it all the time and keep trying. Nathan still doesn't really drink milk, just eats some cereal and other dairy products.

My suggestion- STRAWS. Different shapes, sizes, colors- whatever. They LOVE to drink through straws. Hope that helps!

Give up. That's my suggestion. I agree with Erika. I stressed SO much about Easton getting enough milk I made myself sick sometimes. Eventually he started drinking it and now he gets plenty. She does great with yogurt and cheese, so that's good.

My oldest still won't drink milk, and just recently will she drink chocolate milk. She is five. I think that too much water for little infants is bad, but not as they get older. Besides cheese and yogurt, I would give her pudding made with milk and oatmeal and other hot cereals made with milk instead of water. Juliana also liked the carnation instant breakfast vanilla flavor with milk. I stressed too, but Juliana is fine and very healthy. I also started giving her the calcium gummy vitamins, it can't hurt.

Too much water is only a worry before 6 months old. She's fine now. I give Lexi 50/50 whole milk and pedisure(mainly cause she won't take any formula) U could also mix some of the vanilla carnation good start breakfast powder with the milk. Everyone says it helps it taste more like breastmilk and it has vitamins and minerals in it. The main reason they say milk is because of the fat in it to help with development.
